One of my very first experiences in leading professional learning was for the BEGINNING WRITING WORKSHOP hosted by All-Write. It was many moons ago, but continues to hold a soft spot in my heart. It was the humble roots for the wings I’ve grown in the field.
This month my most recent book, Enticing Hard-to-Reach Writers, celebrates its first birthday. I think it is perfect serendipity to celebrate by offering a workshop for the consortium. I like when things come full circle.
On November 29, I’ll be at Garrett-Keyser-Butler talking about hard-to-reach writers. The workshop will be split into three parts:
- How the brain works and what happens to the brain when kids are from dark places…and, most importantly, what teachers can do to nourish the brain and help it change back.
- A case for writing workshop — not everyone needs to be a writer, but every student deserves to be in a writing workshop!
- (The majority of the day) Moves to make to reach hard-to-reach writers (and we’re all hard-to-reach writers, at least sometimes). These practical strategies and slight mind shifts can be used immediately!
Find out more about the workshop and a flyer to spread the word by clicking here.
If you’re interested in joining us, just grab your tickets here. It is a free workshop for consortium members! (I’ll also be repeating this workshop at IU-Kokomo on February 28.)
I still pinch myself to get to do this work — to change lives by helping students and teachers write their stories in the best directions possible. It is always an honor to present and I thank you for the encouragement you’ve given me over the years.
Shine on,
Ruth
